Strategic Initiatives
Growth programs, investments, and their expected impact
Shopify is building an AI-commerce layer around Shopify Catalog, Agentic Storefronts, and the Universal Commerce Protocol. Catalog standardizes and distributes product information, Agentic Storefronts centralizes merchant control of AI channels, and UCP provides an open protocol through which AI agents can discover products and complete commerce workflows.
Expected impact: The initiative is intended to make Shopify's merchant inventory discoverable and purchasable across major AI interfaces while preserving merchant control of customer relationships, pricing, checkout logic, and order attribution.
Shopify is expanding Sidekick from a conversational assistant into an operating layer that can use merchant data, recommend actions, work across connected applications, and support mobile and voice interaction. The Spring 2026 Edition also introduced an AI sales associate and Campaign Autopilot.
Expected impact: The tools are designed to reduce merchant workload, improve product-data quality and campaign execution, and make Shopify's commerce intelligence more actionable across administration, customer service, and marketing workflows.
Shopify is extending foundational native B2B functionality from Shopify Plus to Basic, Grow, and Advanced plans at no additional cost, allowing merchants to manage wholesale and direct-to-consumer activity through one platform.
Expected impact: The initiative broadens Shopify's addressable B2B merchant opportunity, reduces dependence on third-party wholesale workarounds, and creates a more direct upgrade path to the advanced B2B capabilities available through Shopify Plus.
